5 Tips for Hosting the Ultimate Home Movie Night
There’s no better way to take it easy at the end of the week than a home movie night. And, with more of us staying indoors than ever before, it’s the perfect opportunity to take your usual movie night up a notch. We’ve rounded up a few of our favourite tips for how to make the most of your movie night at home — think lots of pillows and cozy blankets, a great movie, and, of course, plenty of amazing snacks and goodies.
1. Pick your movie
First things first — you’ll want to choose the right movie. Whether it’s the whole family or just you and your partner, compromising on something that suits everyone’s test is always the best bet. A vote is a great way to decide if no one can agree. Or, just watch them all!
Need some inspiration? Here are a few picks from our team for excellent movie night films that you can find on Netflix:
Action-obsessed? Try the always-popular Oceans 11 or the original Jurassic Park.
Date night? Keep it classic and light with You’ve Got Mail.
Want to learn something new? Transport yourself out of your living room and into nature with Our Planet.
2. Set the scene
Prepare to get comfortable. Bring out the pillows, blankets, bean bags — whatever you’ve got — to set the scene for a truly cozy movie night. If your home movie night includes kids, think about creative ways that you can make things feel extra fun — maybe it’s a pillow fort, setting up a tent, or a mattress on the floor piled high with blankets.
3. Test out your tech
No one wants their movie night to be interrupted by a broken sound system, or half an hour spent searching the internet to find out how to fix your TV. To help avoid any in-the-moment movie night frustrations, it’s a smart idea to test out your TV, streaming services and devices, and sound system in advance.
4. Think outside the box
It’s easy to just sit on the couch and choose the first thing that you see on Netflix, but what makes a movie night extra special is adding something to it you wouldn’t normally. Maybe you borrow a projector from a friend and screen the movie in your backyard. Or, pick a theme for your movie night and make it a movie marathon, complete with on-theme decorations.
5. Get your snacks together
Last but certainly not least, having truly delicious snacks is arguably what takes a movie night to the next level. You can’t beat the classics like popcorn, but think outside the box and don’t be afraid to get some extra goodies — chips, cookies, baked goods, candy. Movie night is the perfect time for a bit of indulgence.
